As the grand Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW) show continues in Hong Kong, the spotlight shone brightly on the champions of sustainability within the fine jewellery and gemstone sectors. The highly anticipated Sustainability Awards 2024, hosted by JWA (Jewellery World Awards), took place last night, honouring the industry’s finest contributors to sustainable practices.

This year’s awards programme, organised by Informa Markets Jewellery, recognised companies that excelled in areas such as environmental conservation, social impact, and innovative manufacturing practices.

The winners represented a diverse range of countries including Australia, Brazil, China, India, the US, Vietnam, and more, showcasing global commitment to sustainable development.

Among the winners were:

* VGL & Shop LC Global Inc, awarded for their exceptional work in Environmental Stewardship.

• Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ), recognised for their impactful efforts in Social Empowerment.

• Shenzhen Shangshan Intelligence Co Ltd (part of Shenzhen Kinghood Group), honoured for pioneering Manufacturing Innovation.

• Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group and Smiling Rocks Limited, both celebrated for their contributions to Community Engagement.

• Fine Jewellery Manufacturing Ltd and Shree Ramkrishna Exports Pvt Ltd (SRK), who shared the prestigious Sustainability Leadership award.

Additionally, special recognition was given to Hari Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd for their dedication to environmental efforts and Vector Trading for their community-focused initiatives.

Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets, underscored the significance of these awards, noting that they reflect a growing commitment to sustainability across the industry. “Our awardees, whether large corporations or small businesses, all demonstrate that sustainable practices are achievable at any scale. Their collective efforts will undoubtedly shape the future of the jewellery sector,” said Lau.

She emphasised that the awards also serve as a reminder of the power of collaboration: “While individual actions are crucial, it is through unified efforts that we can make the greatest impact. Let’s take inspiration from these champions and work together towards a more sustainable future.”

The winners were selected by a panel of experts from various fields, including John Mulligan from the World Gold Council, Nirupa Bhatt, a renowned business coach, and Hayley A. Henning, a strategist in the coloured gemstone sector, among others.
