Tahnee Barbee, currently studying jewellery technology at the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology (TIJT), made a bold career shift from corporate finance to pursue her lifelong love for jewellery making. She plans to graduate this year and hopes to blend her technical skills with her creative vision as both a bench jeweller and an independent designer.
Gigi Sui, a student at North Bennet Street School (NBSS) in Boston, discovered her passion for jewellery after initially aspiring to be a painter. With a background in nail and pharmacy technology, Gigi is now focused on mastering jewellery making and repair, aiming to carve out a career as a bench jeweller and eventually create bespoke designs.
Daniela Villacorta, whose family legacy in jewellery spans generations, is studying metalsmithing at Kean University while working at a jewellery manufacturer. Inspired by her cultural heritage and committed to sustainable practices, Daniela aims to earn her BFA and establish her own jewellery business that reflects her roots and values.
The "Future of Jewelry Making" scholarships, a cornerstone of the MJSA Education Foundation's mission, support aspiring jewellers in their educational pursuits. Since 1997, the Foundation has awarded nearly $270,000 in scholarships, supported by generous donations including $20,000 from the Providence Jewelers Club. Managed by the Rhode Island Foundation, these funds ensure that aspiring jewellers receive the support they need to thrive.
