Known for her unique approach to design, McDonald’s latest creations exemplify her philosophy of celebrating nature’s raw beauty while prioritising sustainability.
The emeralds, responsibly mined at Gemfields’ Kagem mine in Zambia, take centre stage in the collection, embodying the growing demand for conscious luxury. “I have long admired Gemfields’ responsible mining practices. You cannot love natural materials and disregard the way they’re obtained,” McDonald explains.
Signature pieces, including asymmetrical Emerald Drop Earrings and an elegant Emerald Tennis Necklace, highlight her hallmark style of working with irregular shapes. Paired with white gold and black rhodium finishes, the designs achieve a balance of timeless sophistication and edgy vibrancy. “Zambian emeralds, with their cool undertones, were the perfect fit for these designs,” McDonald says.
Sustainability remains central to McDonald’s creative process. Her designs incorporate reclaimed gold and ethical materials, reflecting her nearly two-decade-long commitment to sustainable practices. “I’ve prioritised sustainability from the beginning—it’s not just a trend but a passion,” she adds.
This collaboration with Gemfields underscores the growing synergy between fine jewellery and environmental responsibility, redefining luxury as both elegant and ethical.
