Acclaimed designer Kimberly McDonald, renowned for her asymmetrical, gem-set jewellery, has partnered with Gemfields to launch a new collection spotlighting Zambian emeralds. Known for her unique designs that embrace the natural beauty of stones, McDonald’s latest collaboration features a suite of stunning emerald jewellery, capturing the vivid green hues of responsibly mined gemstones from the Kagem mine in Zambia.

The collection, which includes McDonald’s signature Irregular Shaped Emerald Drop Earrings and an Irregular Shaped Emerald Tennis Necklace, celebrates the vibrant beauty of Zambian emeralds, with more than 26 carats in the earrings and 34 carats in the necklace. Each emerald has been carefully colour-matched for maximum visual impact, arranged in playful, asymmetrical designs that are true to McDonald’s distinctive aesthetic.

“The new emerald collection is a celebration of nature’s beauty, allowing the gemstones to speak for themselves,” McDonald said. “I hope my pieces inspire people to connect not only with the jewellery but also with the planet, as all the materials I use are responsibly sourced.”

The emeralds in this collection come from Gemfields' Kagem mine, which is known for producing some of the world’s most prized emeralds. Zambian emeralds are formed over 500 million years and are highly regarded for their deep green hue, which comes from the presence of chromium, iron, and beryllium in their crystal structure.

“Kimberly McDonald’s designs bring out the natural beauty of these emeralds in a way that is both elegant and unique. Her ability to create pieces that reflect the play of light and colour is remarkable,” said Emily Dungey, Gemfields’ Marketing and Communications Director.

The Kimberly McDonald x Gemfields collaboration not only showcases the beauty of Zambian emeralds but also reinforces the brand’s commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainable practices. Each piece in the collection is handcrafted with natural, reclaimed, or recycled materials, aligning with both McDonald’s and Gemfields’ ethical values.

This exclusive collection is now available at Bergdorf Goodman in New York, offering jewellery lovers a chance to own a piece that blends artistry with sustainability, all while showcasing the allure of Zambian emeralds.
