Lisa Bridge, President and CEO of Ben Bridge Jeweler, and Dr. Wendy Bohrson, a professor of geology at the Colorado School of Mines, bring exceptional expertise and leadership to the GIA Board. Their appointments come as the Institute continues to drive innovation and uphold its mission of consumer protection in the gem and jewellery industry.
A Dynamic Duo of Industry and Science
Lisa Bridge represents the fifth generation of her family to lead Ben Bridge Jeweler, a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary. With an impressive career spanning leadership roles and industry accolades, Bridge holds a GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma and a Certified Gemologist title from the American Gem Society (AGS). She is a former AGS board president and an advocate for diversity, serving on the Advisory Committee of the Black in Jewelry Coalition. Her recent accolades include the NextGen Award from Diamonds Do Good and the 2024 GEM Award for Retail Excellence.
Dr. Wendy Bohrson, a highly regarded professor at the Colorado School of Mines, brings more than 35 years of academic expertise in geology. A Stanford University and UCLA alumna, she has contributed significantly to research on volcanic systems and magma processes. She is a celebrated mentor to many in the geoscience field, recognized for her innovative research and dedication to education.

Research Milestones and Upcoming Events
The meeting also highlighted GIA’s commitment to advancing gemological research. Prior to the Board meeting, the Institute hosted its 14th annual research gathering, bringing together nearly 80 experts, including GIA scientists, board members, and outside specialists. Presentations covered advancements in diamond, colored stone, and pearl identification, AI-based instrumentation, and gemstone origin determination.
Insights from the research team will be shared at 'Converge', a major gem and jewellery conference combining the GIA Symposium and AGS Conclave. Scheduled for September 7–10, 2025, 'Converge' will offer a global platform for collaboration and innovation. Registration opens in January 2025.
