The design competition was organised for the students of ID with the intent to bring forth new ideas and creativity in the field. It was themed ‘Natural Elements’ inspired by nature and containing source elements of nature in physical form. The competition called for entries in the categories of Necklace Set and Half Bangle Bracelet. Altogether over 100 entries were received, from which the winners were selected by the joint panel of Jewel Goldi India and Indian Diamond Institute. The winners named in the competition include: Ms. Bhimani Pratibhaben followed by Ms. Sutariya Mayuriben. The first and second place winners were awarded with Certificates of Participation, cash rewards and medals, while the runner up received a Certificate of Participation.
Shri Samir Joshi, IDI’s Executive Director-Acting mentioned that the competition was a new endeavour conceived by the institute to present new talent to the industry. According to this concept, companies are called on for providing a theme, and the designs produced by the students would be shared with the companies. The institute plans hosting 12 such competitions in the year in association with Jewellery companies.
The 34th Convocation-cum-Foundation day was held on 13th May 2012 and was attended by leading professionals, dignitaries, press and electronic media correspondents and students. The gathering included Shri Rajiv Jain, Chairman, The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council as the Chief Guest, Shri Dineshbhai Navadia, President, Surat Diamond Association, Shri Aagam Sanghavi, Chairman, IDI, Shri Samir Joshi, Executive Director-Acting –all of whom occupied seats on the Dais. Over 100 jewellery designs created by IDI’s current students and guided by IDI’s Design faculties were on display. Shri Maheshbhai and Jitubhai were also present on behalf of Jewel Goldi. The event was celebrated at IDI-City Centre, Vesu Campus.
In his encouraging speech, Shri Rajiv Jain stated as the government plans to double the export figures within the coming five years under the Panch Varsiya Yojna, there is a lot more demand for skilled professionals.

Kushwaha Sandeepkumar - M/s. Laxmi Diamond, Surat for being All round best student (male).
