Some lots at Christie's Geneva sale sell at record breaking prices

Christie's semi-annual jewellery sales in Geneva which was held on November 16, 2011, churned some record prices for some exceptional lots. Also, it was an occasion that saw leading jeweller Laurence Graff buying back a diamond ring which was once his, creation. The entire sale generated revenues worth $61.37 million. Also, according to reports, the auction house noted a keen demand for exceptional lots where their prices could reach heights, but the demand for mid-range or not so attractive lots was not so exciting.

Laurance Graff bought back a white diamond ring, paying around $4 million, reports say. The ring carried a pre-sale estimate of $2.9 million-$3.5 million, and includes an oval-shaped white diamond, of 24.30 carats, with 'D' colour grading.

Amongst the other record breakers was a gray diamond of 10.67 carats (estimated at $120,000-200,000), selling for $1.19 million, a world record price for a gray diamond. Also, earrings made of pear-shaped Colombian emeralds and diamonds sold for $3.078 million, setting a record price at auction.
