Two days since the bomb blasts in Mumbai shook the city’s diamond district at Zaveri Bazaar and Opera house, the All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) held a meeting at Patidar hall at Opera House to discuss the issues of security for the industry. The meeting was attended by MLA Mr. Mangal Prabhatji and members of the gem and jewellery industry.

At the meeting an initial relief fund of Rs. 10 lakh was floated. There were many jewellers who contributed to the fund, an expression of solidarity of the industry.

MLA Mangal Prabhatji delivered a speech at the meeting and requested all to be supportive with the trade and talk to government. Suggestions were made to remove the hawkers on the streets of these affected areas.

Pareshbhai from P & S Jewellery shared an emotional moment at the meeting where he recounted approaching the site of the blasts and aiding the injured. He suggested all present to awaken to the need to make united efforts to combat such crisis.

At the meeting it was also suggested to create an identity card for every jeweller for general security reasons and make vehicle parking at Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House area, more organised.
