The annual American Gem Society Conclave, to be held a month later, has seen a 34 percent increase in its registration, as compared to registrations in 2009. Following this, the AGS has arranged to accommodate the additional retail attendees with seven extra classes included into its schedule. % % “As our membership struggles to build market share in this economy, they are looking for ways to add value to their dollar,” said Ruth Batson, CEO and Executive Director of AGS. “We are offering them the best thinking and strategies of leading authorities from both inside and outside the industry. This increase in attendance underscores how our membership is responding to the unique programming and investing in their own continued education, as well as seeking ways to enhance their business practices.”

(R)evolution has been decided as the theme for the 2010 Conclave. The event’s programme is designed to deliver tools and information to teach revolutionary business practices. Some of the programme highlights include: Guy Kawasaki, a leader in social media marketing and one of four featured speakers among a roster of notables, will discuss using social media tools like Twitter to increase sales and marketing reach.; an annual two-day Supplier Gallery is where suppliers will showcase their jewellery in an exhibit designed like an art gallery; workshops will be conducted by leading Harvard Business School (HBS) professors with hands-on experience with the HBS curriculum; break-out sessions and presentations on important industry-specific topics, like evaluating estate jewellery, and next-generation succession plan; 10 total hours of hands-on GIA Lab classes and three lectures.

“Our members know that to compete in this economy, it takes revolutionary new ways of doing business,” said Ms. Batson, “Conclave is offering them tools and outlets for communicating and building their brand. We are truly offering a revolution in business, and AGS members are at the forefront of this revolution.”

The 2010 Conclave is slated for April 21-24 at the Westin Copley Place in Boston.
