The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Thailand is hosting its next Gemstone Gathering on October 20, 2009, with a session entitled “An Evening with Tom Moses”. Moses, senior vice president of GIA Laboratory and Research, will provide an update on HPHT-treated diamonds and the latest advances made in coloured stone services. The October Gemstone Gathering will be its 29th edition and is slated to be held at the Dusit Thani Hotel. Entry to the event is free.
“Tom is one of the world’s most accomplished gemologists and a leading contributor to GIA research efforts for more than 20 years,” said Kenneth Scarratt, managing director of GIA Southeast Asia and director of the GIA Laboratory in Bangkok. “In his role as head of GIA’s global laboratory and research operations, he has been instrumental in developing and maintaining grading and identification standards used worldwide.”
“We look forward to what he has to say about the most recent discoveries from GIA Research and what advances the GIA Laboratory is making in colored stone services,” Scarratt added.
Moses has led the GIA Laboratory to expansion, of its grading facilities, research and service centers in Mumbai, Bangkok, Johannesburg, Gaborone, Hong Kong and Antwerp; and its network of third-party consolidators across the globe. He has also contributed to the GIA Laboratory launching its grading and identification services for synthetic diamonds and pearls, and expanding its coloured stone services.
