“We are pretty satisfied with IIJS 2009. This is the first time we are participating in the show. We have had more than expected enquiries and orders,” says Viral Shah, Firestone, whose stall was under the Antwerp World Diamond Centre pavilion. This response was shared by many other exhibitors at the 26th edition of the India International Jewellery Show (IIJS). The five day long event which commenced on 6th August, 2009, ended on August 10, on a successful and positive note. IIJS is India’s largest, Asia’s 2nd largest and World’s 5th largest show.

Despite the economic slowdown, H1N1 viral flu panic in the city, exhibitors and buyers displayed an enthusiasm in building and enhancing their trade on all the five days. As the marriage and festival season is on the anvil, innovation seemed to rule the roost at the IIJS 2009. This was exemplified by the latest fads in jewellery designs showcased by both national and international exhibitors. In the machinery section, technological advancements pertaining to gems and jewellery industry attracted buyers in huge numbers.

There has been an equal eagerness of people at the 19 seminars under the theme of Preparing for the upturn. Eminent people from the industry provided useful insights about various modern marketing strategies and solutions for the domestic retailers and wholesalers.

While the number of domestic buyers has been more than expected, the little presence of international buyers has been felt throughout the show. Despite this fact IIJS 2009 has indeed proven to be an excellent platform for all the exhibitors to revive their trade and move forward.
