The Dubai Pearl Exchange is organising its private tender for natural and cultured pearls between February 12-16, 2009, which will see a gathering of pearl producers such as Paspaley Pearling Co., Robert Wan, Jewelmer and Cogent Trading , with some of the rarest variety in the world. Producers will present closed bids for up to 80 lots of important single pieces and gem quality matched sets and rare strands.

The event is by invitation only and is the first world showcase of gem quality pearls in Dubai. It is expected to create very impressive distribution and sales opportunities, with pearls worth several millions of dollars to be on sale. . Participation will be from biggest international pearl buyers, leading jewellery design brands and members of the Dubai Pearl Exchange. Some of the rare pieces to be put on sale include an extremely important cultured South Sea strand with a centrepiece of more than 22mm in size, by Paspaley Pearling.

Dubai is also slated to host the World Pearl Forum and official opening of the Dubai Pearl Exchange office on the 62nd floor of Almas Tower within Jumeirah Lakes Towers, along with the tender event.
