As per reports, India has imposed a ban on importing rough diamonds from Cote d'Ivoire.

This step is in keeping with the United Nations Security Council and diamond industry organizations.

A notification by the directorate general of foreign trade stated June 14, 2007 states "Import of rough diamonds from Cote d'Ivoire shall be prohibited in compliance to Paragraph 6 of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1643 (2005)."

The United Nations, the World Diamond Council, and the Kimberley Process have placed bans on rough leaving Cote d'Ivoire after having found that exported rough had been funding weapons.
