The Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), apex body of the gem and jewellery industry in India and Rio Tinto recently honored the winners of the ANANT Shooting Star Contest – for best in-store display. C. Krishnaih Chetty & Sons was declared the All India winner among 16 regional winners for this contest which saw participation of 197 ANANT retail outlets across the country. Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, face of the ANANT campaign gave away the award to the national winner.

The 16 regional winners include Lagu Bandhu Motiwale Jewellers and Orra- the diamond destination, Hughes road from Mumbai; Laxmi Jewellery from Ahmedabad; Davanam Jewellers and Reliance Jewels from Bangalore; CH Jewellers from Baroda; Reliance Jewels from Hyderabad; Orra-the diamond destination from Chennai; Kirtilal Kalidas Jewellers from Coimbatore; B C Sen from Kolkatta; Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers from Jaipur; Orra- the diamond destination from Lucknow; Tanishq, Rajouri Garden, Delhi; Orra- the diamond destination from Chandigarh; H Venkatesha Naik from Cochin; Batukbhai & Sons from Nagpur. The winners were conferred with trophies and certificates apart from merchandise signed by Sonam Kapoor.

Addressing the media, Sanjay Kothari, Co-convener, Marketing & Promotions, GJEPC said, “The Council hopes that with this initiative, the diamond industry in India has benefitted and has got the momentum required to emerge out of the slow down. ANANT now enters a very intriguing phase and this contest only helped in catapulting the involvement of retailers in this initiative. I congratulate the winners for their exemplary efforts and their belief in GJEPC’s efforts to boost the industry in India. He also added that the council wishes to continue the initiative for the next two to three years and hoped for more participation from the Indian jewellery retailers.

Vikram Merchant, Manager of Rio Tinto Diamonds Mumbai Office commented on the importance of the ANANT campaign in driving demand for the diamond jewellery in India. “GJEPC’s ANANT is a unique initiative which brings together participants at every level of the gem and jewellery supply chain.” He further added, “For any successful promotion, an attractive instore display is vital. With that in mind, we came up with this concept of ANANT Shooting Star contest – an instore display contest. We are pleased with the response we have got and I would like to congratulate the winners.”

As an extension of the ANANT campaign to boost and sustain diamond jewellery in India, the month long contest was organized in December 2009 across 13 regions and the winners were declared on 2 January 2010. Prasoon Joshi (Mccann Erickson), Shimul Vyas (National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad) and Soma Bhatta (Retail Jeweller) were the judges.
