When Design Took Centre Stage - IIJW 2017

Models walked the ramps wearing resplendent jewellery of diamonds, emeralds and other precious stones. Audience was reassured that India is and will continue to be a leader in handcrafted jewellery.

IIJW 2017, one of the most awaited jewellery fashion shows in the country kick-started this Saturday with Nakshatra World’s dazzling diamond jewellery. Powered by GIA and co-partnered by Forevermark and Platinum Guild International on 23rd and 24th September 2017, GJEPC’s IIJW was a thoroughfare of stunning jewellery collections by handful of brands.

“In sync with the Prime Minister’s vision of showcasing the best of Indian creativity and craftsmanship to global customers, IIJW is an initiative to showcase the finest in indigenous Make in India jewellery. Be it design or innovation, or top-of-the-line craftsmanship, technology and quality, Indian jewellers are comparable to the best in the world. The most renowned of Indian jewellers will showcase their inspired and admired classic and contemporary jewellery collections to the crème-de-la-crème of Indian society comprising socialites, celebrities, aesthetes, policy makers, trade constituents and influentials amongst others. IIJW is an extravaganza, a celebration and a bonanza for jewellery lovers who can get a sneak preview of the most extraordinary, exquisite and extravagant collections for this festive season,” said Praveenshankar Pandya, Chairman.

Present at the inauguration were Praveenshankar Pandya, Chairman, GJEPC, Nirupa Bhatt, MD, GIA, India & Middle East, Amruta Fadnavis (wife of Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra Chief Minister), Mehul Choksi, Chairman, Gitanjali Group and Shailesh Sangani, Convener, PMBD, GJEPC. The newest face of Nakshatra World Kriti Sanon was the showstopper of the event wearing a beautiful gold, lacy necklace with bangles and earrings in yellow & white diamonds along with a pendant. Group President Saurav Bhattacharya along with Sanon proudly walked the ramp at the end of the show.

The grand opening of IIJW 2017 by Nakshatra World, which displayed jewellery with rubies, flowy necklaces, geometric collar necklaces, diamond chokers with pearl and ruby accents, bib necklaces and more was followed by CaratLane’s stunning show of everyday wear jewellery with muses ranging from nature to architecture, traditional techniques to popular trends. CaratLane exhibited jewellery from collections such as Aaranya, Peacock, Butterfly, Lotus, Bombay Deco, Dhokra, Ikat, Uttarakshin, Sway, and Un-nostalgic Gold to celebrate the upcoming festive season. Each collection narrated the brand’s design philosophy - to craft jewellery that makes the wearer ‘feel’ beautiful, drawing out her compelling individuality, inner confidence and self-esteem. The show ended with little Miss Aarya Joshi walking the ramp with the jewellery designers Chetan Sharma and Sumanpreet Kaur.

Azva put up a great display of stunning bridal jewellery in gold and precious stones while PC Jewellers paid tribute to the colourful mosaic of royal Rajasthan “Swarn Dharohar”. From pink cities to amber sunsets, the collection was a breathtaking ode to the city of undying arts and crafts.

Day two commenced with Waman Hari Pethe Jewellers wherein they had collaborated with students of IIGJ to display jewellery made of both gold and silver. This was followed by Surya Golds in association with Swarovski Gemstones were models walked the ramp in heavy gold jewellery studded in Swarovski gemstones, with actress Shamita Shetty as the showstopper. Pallavi Foley’s Flame of the Forest collection presented by Bluestone was yet another standout at IIJW. Inspired by the beautiful orange flower “Flame of the Forest”, the collection is a unique expression of nature’s most gorgeous elements. The flower forms the core of the key pieces with myriad elements like rain, fire and other flora blending together to create a truly unconventional collection. With Yami Gautam as the showstopper, the collection had in store body jewellery, ear cuffs, statement neck pieces and more in gold. Speaking about the collection, designer Pallavi Foley explains, “Bangalore holds a very special place in my heart, and this collection captures the beauty of this versatile city with its gorgeous balance of flora and industry. Designing this collection with BlueStone. com has been a very wonderful experience, and we are excited with the response to the show.”

People were waiting with bated breath for Laksh Pahuja’s display of wearable art. Every year, he stuns the audience with jewellery designs that are born out of sheer genius and this time was no different. With a theme of patriotism, Laksh Pahuja paid tribute to the likes of Shubash Chandra Bose, Lata Mangeshkar, Ratan Tata and other eminent leaders through his collection. All of the pieces were memorable, but the brooch inspired by cartoonist R. K. Laxman and the statement necklace inspired by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose were absolutely stunning and received a standing ovation from the audience.

ANMOL resonated the charm of opulence as it showcased a larger than life collection of signature jewel pieces curated in uncut and fine-cut Australian Diamonds. With eminent celebrities including Padmini Kolhapure, Poonam Dhillon, Naman Shaw, Ramesh Taurani and Shilpi Sharma present at the show, a stately assortment of designs that were poised with timeless elegance and were crafted in Australian Diamonds. Ethically sourced from the famed Argyle mines in the East Kimberley region of Western Australia, every piece of Jewellery made with these gems is accompanied by a certificate approving of its native authenticity.

Reliance Jewels in association with Rio Tinto showcased a stunning display of layered diamond necklaces and stylish and sleek light weight diamond jewellery meant for the women of today. Bhumi Padnekar walked the ramp with a stunning diamond choker with oodles of charm. Finally, C. Krishnaih Chetty Group of Jewellers finished the show with traditional, South Indian, bridal jewellery in gold, from armlets, waist bands to chunky kaasu malas (coin necklaces) and more.
