A Born Artist - Jewellery by Frédéric Mané

Born in Perpignan, a town in South of France, arts and designing were never an unfamiliar territory for Frédéric. He pursued a career in luxury product design in Creapole design school in Paris and later, he followed his dream of jewellery designing by joining Ecole du Louvre. “I am a designer with over 14 years of experience. I collaborated with luxury groups and maintained a deep relationship with Parisian jewelers and international signature brands with a strong and broad experience in design - particularly in jewellery and the design of precious objects and accessories,” says Frédéric.

In his tenure as jewellery designer he has collaborated with renowned brands like Nina Ricci, Arthur Bertrand Jewellery, Swarovski, Mont Blanc and Roberto Cavalli. He was part of many luxury workshops at Vendôme, which allowed him to follow the design process - from the technical, conceptual, and creative process to the fabrication - and all its subtleties and technicalities. Before he founded his design studio in Paris, he was the head designer for Mathon (Paris) for 6 years.

“My sources of inspiration are the Fine Arts, the famous muses of history, and antique legends, but what influences my creations the most is the observation of nature in motion.” For example dewdrop on leaves, the beating of a dragonfly’s wings, the sudden blooming of a flower, or the flight of a bird. Do his designs resonate with the charm of the romantic city of Paris? To this he says, “My designs are exhibited all over the world like Japan, Emirates, China and the US. I can find my inspiration everywhere, but only where beauty lives. I like old cities like Samarcande and Roma. Humanity is a real treasure where I can find many inspirations.”

Frédéric’s creative process is a rich creative universe that incorporates all styles and inspirations, his design studio is where design is transformed into concept, starting with hand drawn sketches. “I offer my expertise both in the knowledge of rare stones and innovative materials. I like to propose the best traditional practices paired with new technology in order to create collections and exceptional pieces.”

Frédéric has quite a strict view when it comes to following trends. “Create your own style, to be singular and creative, and it’s better to have your own style. If you follow trends you are not really an artist.” He also believes perfectionism is a virtue every jewellery designer must possess. What is Frédéric currently up to? He is preparing a new collection, a futuristic line using precious ceramics made with gold and platinum. That sums up his definition of being unique and working with rare materials.

Though French, Frédéric loves Italy. “My favourite city is Pompeia, an archeological city where many treasures have been discovered. I am really inspired by the ancient civilizations.” But like most designers, India has been a muse for Frédéric too. “When I was child, I was really fascinated by India, a fabulous culture! It was one of my 1st sources of inspiration and I would like to discover this country very soon!” he signs off.
