During his visit to Beijing, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov conveyed to the news agency Tass that the impact of these Western-imposed restrictions extends beyond Russia, affecting the nations that introduced them. Siluanov stated, "Exports of diamonds will continue. We will simply shift sales to other regions. I am confident this won't be advantageous for those imposing these sanctions."

In the preceding month, Dmitry Peskov, press secretary to Vladimir Putin, had cautioned about a potential "boomerang effect," suggesting that the G7 countries imposing sanctions would suffer more than Russia.

In response to what Russia deems "unfriendly, illegitimate actions," its foreign ministry declared intentions to retaliate by banning additional European institutions and EU member states from entering the country.
