Jewelers Mutual, in partnership with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), has launched the Ron Harder Gemological Scholarship, a $50,000 initiative aimed at nurturing future gemologists. Named after Ron Harder, former CEO of Jewelers Mutual known for his dedication to excellence, innovation, and education in the jewellery industry, this scholarship will be distributed over five years, offering an annual award of $10,000.

Open to current students enrolled in GIA’s gemology program, applicants for the Ron Harder Gemological Scholarship are required to submit an essay of 500 to 1000 words explaining how the scholarship would aid in their program completion and pave the way for a successful career in the jewellery industry. The application period runs from April 1st to April 30th.

Scott Murphy, President and CEO of Jewelers Mutual, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to honour Ron Harder’s legacy by supporting the next generation of gemologists. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in advancing the jewellery industry’s future.

Ron Harder himself lauded the initiative, highlighting the shared commitment between Jewelers Mutual and GIA in nurturing talent for the industry’s sustained growth and prosperity.

GIA President and CEO, Susan Jacques, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing GIA's dedication to providing top-tier gemological education and expressing appreciation for Jewelers Mutual's support in empowering students for successful careers in the gem and jewellery sector.

Applications for the Ron Harder Gemological Scholarship can be submitted through the GIA application portal.
