Christie’s Geneva is set to host a momentous auction on November 12, featuring a rare and historic Colombian emerald brooch commissioned by Prince Aga Khan and a collection of exquisite jewels from the prestigious Sassoon family. This auction, marking 55 years of Christie’s presence in Switzerland, promises to captivate collectors with its presentation of opulent pieces that combine historical significance with unparalleled craftsmanship.

A standout piece, the Colombian emerald brooch, was crafted by Cartier Paris in 1960 and presented by Prince Aga Khan to his then-wife, Nina Dyer, a well-known socialite of her time. This remarkable brooch showcases a striking 37-carat emerald encircled by diamonds, reflecting both the elegance of the era and Cartier’s signature finesse. Originally auctioned by Christie’s in 1969, this brooch returns to the auction scene with an estimated value of $6 million to $8 million.

Max Fawcett, Christie’s Head of Jewellery Europe, expressed excitement about reintroducing this storied brooch, noting, “The emerald brooch is not merely jewellery; it embodies the allure of a past era. With the renewed market interest in coloured gemstones, especially unenhanced emeralds, we expect substantial global interest.” The piece comes with an SSEF report certifying the emerald’s remarkable quality and natural clarity, which enhances its rarity.

Adding to the auction’s prestige, the Sassoon family, famed for their legacy in global trade and refined taste, is offering several treasures, headlined by an Art Deco diamond necklace crafted by Cartier London. Valued between $1 million and $1.5 million, the necklace epitomizes the glamour and geometric design of the Art Deco era, embodying the Sassoon family’s long-standing association with luxury and sophistication.

The Sassoon family’s influence began in 1830s Mumbai and extended across Asia, reaching markets in Kolkata, Karachi, China, Japan, Myanmar, and Malaysia. This auction presents an exceptional glimpse into their enduring legacy and showcases the family’s remarkable collection of jewellery that has been cherished across generations.

Christie’s Geneva auction is poised to draw global collectors and enthusiasts, offering a unique blend of historic treasures and unmatched elegance.
