Though TBZ recently ventured in the eastern region and opened two stores in Kolkata, Kankurgachi is selected as one of the venue to garner good volume of business. “Business from this catchment is good and a jeweller can easily book daily sales of Rs 20 lakh-Rs 30 lakh,” said Namit Dave a gold analyst.
Siddharth Sawansukha, managing director, Sawansukha Jewellers, on the sidelines of opening its first showroom at Kankurgachi, in Kolkata on Sunday, said” “There was a need for Sawansukha in Kankurgachi as 60 per cent of our clients do come from this catchment.”
People can differentiate the designs and choose from 7-8 jewellery houses now, added Dave. “This area is already grown. A matured area is always much more advanced and thoughtful to come in,” said Sawansukha.
The Sawansukha boutique shop is spread across 2,500 square feet (sq ft). The store would be open all the seven days and would offer up to 100 per cent discount on the making charges as an inauguration offer, it is learnt. “The store will cater to customers from the Rajarhat, Salt Lake, Lake Town, Maniktala, Airport and Baguihati among other locations in the vicinity,” he said.
Talking about the footfall, he said the company expects the same footfall as its headquarters.
V Ganesh, regional head (east), Tanishq, promoted by the Tatas, talking about the Kankurgachi store said the footfall has been increasing at a healthy rate. “People come at the store as it is centrally located,” he said.
“Mostly working couples do stay and the jewellers cater to customers of eastern part of the city. We already have a good market share. People may come and go. But we will continue to dominate the market,” said Chandrakanta Roy Chowdhury, partner, MP Jewellers.
