Mumbai, India has been selected to host the biennial World Diamond Congress next year, as decided by the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB). The Congress is slated between October 14 to 17, 2012. As is traditional, the event will be held together with WFDB’s sister organization, the International Diamond Manufacturers Association.

WFDB President Avi Paz said that selecting Mumbai as a venue would “provide an opportunity for delegations from the 28 bourses affiliated to the WFDB to familiarise themselves with the developments taking place in the Indian diamond industry.” He also stated that “"Back in 2005, the Bharat Diamond Bourse hosted the joint Presidents' Meeting of the WFDB and IDMA. At that time, the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) complex was still under construction. Next year, we'll be able to visit this new, 8-tower complex that houses more than 2,500 diamond firms and gauge the enormous strength of one of the world's leading diamond trading centres."

Bharat Diamond Bourse(BDB), the bourse representing the Indian industry in WFDB will be co-hosting the Congress along with The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the body which represents India in IDMA. The two organisations had co-hosted the Presidents’ Meeting of WFDB-IDMA in Mumbai in 2005.
