The World Diamond Council (WDC) plans to host a panel discussion entitled "Diamond Dialogue - the Kimberley Process and Consumer Confidence" during the forthcoming JCK-Las Vegas Show. The discussion will be timed during the educational programme of the Show, and will be held on June 3, 2010, and sponsored by the Diamond Information Center (DIC).
According to WDC President Eli Izhakoff, the panel discussion would present a current snap shot of the decade-long campaign to eradicate the trade in conflict diamonds, challenges currently faced by the Kimberley Process and required measures to improve its operation and the situation on the whole. In particular, the panel will look at the new initiatives being undertaken by the Kimberley Process to ensure consumer confidence in the diamond trade.
The panel will include Mr. Izhakoff, Brad Brooks-Rubin, U.S. State Department; Matt Runci, President of Jewelers of America and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Responsible Jewelry Council; Cecilia L. Gardner, President and CEO of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee; Noora Jamsheer of the UN Panel of Experts on Cote D'Ivoire; John Hall, Corporate Relations Manager at Rio Tinto; and representatives of NGOs active in the industry. Dorothee Gizenga, Director of the Diamond Development Initiative, will be the moderator.
