Christie’s New York Jewels sale generated $41,246,325. It offered 297 lots of which it sold 253 lots. The sale featured The Emperor Maximilian Diamond and the Catherine The Great Emerald Brooch.
The top lot in the sale was a heart-shaped D, Internally Flawless diamond of 28.28 cts, which sold for $3,778,500. “Historic diamonds and Royalty stole the headlines at Christie’s today, with the Emperor Maximilian Diamond achieving $1.76 million - more than twice its original auction price since its first appearance at Christie’s in 1982. Twelve jewels sold for more than $1 million, and D Flawless diamonds continued to bring prices over the $100,000 per carat mark. In all, the sale demonstrated once again the great health of the global market for top-quality jewellery and precious stones,” said Rahul Kadakia, Head of Jewelry at Christie’s New York.
The second top lot to be sold was a cushion-cut fancy vivid blue, VS1 diamond of 3.43 cts that was bought for $3,106,500; a cushion-cut D internally flawless diamond of 20.06 cts was the third top lot that was bought in the sale for $2,490,500. A rectangular-cut E, potentially internally flawless diamond ring of 15.76 cts, by BVLGARI, followed as the fourth top lot that was bought for $1,762,500. This was followed by the Emperor Maximilian Diamond, which is a cushion-cut I, VS1 diamond of 39.55 cts sold for $1,762,500 and the Catherine The Great Emerald Brooch, which is a hexagonal-cut emerald and diamond cluster brooch, sold for $1,650,500.
A cushion-cut kashmir sapphire of 13.86 cts bought for $1,426,500 was the seventh top lot; followed by a pair of pear-shaped D, internally flawless diamond ear pendants of 7.13 and 7.05 cts by Harry Winston bought for $1,202,500; a rectangular-cut D, internally flawless diamond ring of 10.97 cts, by Tiffany & Co. sold for $1,202,500 as the ninth lot. The last amongst the top 10 items to be sold was a circular-cut E color, potentially internally flawless diamond of 10.87 cts which was bought for $1,112,500.
