Jewellery couture show opens the HDIL India Couture Week 2009

The HDIL India Couture Week 2009 kicked off on 12 October, 2009, with an extravagant showcasing of Couture jewellery by four leading jewellery designers of India. Jewellery designers Farah Ali Khan, Maheep Kapoor, Devaunshi Mehta and Queenie Dhody dished out their talent with gold, diamonds and precious stones, suited to every taste – from contemporary to classics. Each designer had select celebrities to showcase their creations on the ramp.

Devaunshi Mehta presented her diamond jewellery collection under her retail brand name ‘DIA’, with jewellery set in diamonds, pearls, rubies, emeralds and white gold. One of the striking pieces in the DIA collection was a handbag made of 18K white gold and 64.75 carats of high quality diamonds. Noted model Shamita Singha sashayed this creation.

Maheep Kapoor’s creations were for Ceres of Goenka Diamond & Jewels Ltd., comprising of a string of heirloom jewellery. Her most stunning piece was a necklace made of 65 round fine diamonds weighing 81.93 carats worn by Diandra Soares. Queenie Dhody showcased a collection of handmade jewellery suited to every occasion. Bollywood actress Sridevi, who opines that Queenie’s collections are always aesthetically appealing, wore a diamond and canary yellow round solitaire diamond set for the ramp.

The Farah Ali Khan collection was named Cascades and presented two looks – one classic and the second as rock chic. Sussanne Khan Roshan who is also the face of Farah Khan jewellery, wore a rose-cut diamond cascading necklace. Bollywood actress Genelia wore a Cascade rock chic piece – a necklace of rubelite and diamonds and earrings.

The evening was a star studded affair, with Bollywood celebrities in the audience cheering for their jewellery designers, and family & friends who walked down the ramp that evening.
