The 13th edition of the HRD Awards, the biennial diamond jewellery contest organised by Antwerp World Diamond Centre, received 1089 designs from around 654 artists, who interpreted the 2009 theme - “Once upon a time…my favourite fairy tale” in their designs. The finalists’ list has been selected and includes 39 names, from which, Antwerp diamond companies can apply to sponsor any one design.

The names were selected based on creativity, aesthetic quality, wearability and craftsmanship, through the drawings, photos or maquette of jewellery piece(s) submitted to the jury. The 39 individuals are required to create the actual jewellery piece, which will be again judges by an international professional jury for the final selection. The jury will reward excellence, innovation, enthusiasm and craftsmanship.
The grand finale will entail the winner of the competition being honoured with € 5.000 and all the laureates benefit from an international promotion programme that accompanies the contest. The jewellery pieces will be exhibited in the Diamond Museum Province Antwerp in July and August 2009, which will travel across the globe for one year.
AWDC hosts the competition to enhance creativity and excellence in contemporary diamond jewellery. The contest offers a forum to designers to present and promote their jewels worldwide.
