The Israeli Diamond Industry is planning to participate at the forthcoming Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair, in huge numbers with more than 50 Israeli diamond manufacturers and exporters. The Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) has set stage for the country, at the Israel Diamond Pavilion in Expo Drive Hall in the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center, with additional companies in the Annex. Forty companies will showcase their newest products – both polished diamonds and diamond jewellery, crafted according to the Asian taste for jewellery.

The IDI considers Asia to have the largest growth potential, and intends to harness the potential of the region. IDI Chairman Moti Ganz said, "We see Asia as the major growth market for Israeli diamond exports. In the coming years IDI will be focusing its marketing efforts on developing these markets, especially Hong Kong, China and India.". In 2007, net exports of polished diamonds to Hong Kong stood at over $1.3 billion. In the same year, IDI opened a representative office in Hong Kong, namely IDI Asia Pacific Ltd., to support and enhance this growth. IDI Managing Director Eli Avidar said, "There was an increase of 35 percent in Israel's net polished exports to Hong Kong in the first half of 2008, and that trend is expected to continue during the year. If we continue in this way this market is going to account for more than 25 percent in 2008."

Currently, Hong Kong ranks the second largest market for Israel's polished diamond exports, representing 19% of total sales.

At the HK show, IDI's image booth at the entrance to the pavilion, will act as its public relations cell for IDI. Also, to promote its participation, IDI is setting up an online mini-site for the pavilion, which can be viewed at the IDI portal. The HK shoe is slated between September 17 – 21.
