International Diamond Laboratories (IDL) has launched its first jewellery certification service in India. It will analyse every jewel piece it receives and prepare a description of its identification, weight and precious metals used. In an IDI report, information like number of diamonds and precious stones embedded, their natural character, shape & measurements, clarity, color and finish will be defined. “We are committed to revolutionising the $20 billion Indian retail jewellery industry with pioneering luxury diamond jewellery certification using state-of-the-art-technology and insightful modern-day-experience-based retail and diamond education programmes. This is just the beginning of our Indian operations in jewellery certification as we create the 'IDL carat club' with leading diamond jewellery retailers,” said Samit Bhatta (General Manager, India and Middle East), IDL.

“An independent third party analysis of diamond jewelry supports consumer confidence and helps retailers diversify their offer of branded and non branded jewelry items,” said Peter Meeus, CEO of IDL. The service was launched at an event in Mumbai, organised by Filmfare, a leading Indian film publication. Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif was the guest of honour, receiving the first IDL first state-of-the-art-lab graded and certified diamond jewellery piece in India. It was a mystical diamond ring from the collection titled “Romance” with pear shaped diamonds embedded. She also received IDL's first Diamond Jewellery Certificate.

The certificates, as defined by the lab would have an enlarged high quality color photograph of the jewellery piece. They would be delivered in three sizes: a luxurious pack, accompanying large pieces and sets; a compact certificate for single pieces and thirdly a credit card size authenticity report.
