The AGS Ideal Report by GIA is now available to the jewelry industry. The report was first announced this fall in a joint announcement between the American Gem Society (AGS) and GIA (Gemological Institute of America).

The AGS Ideal Report by GIA is a digital-only supplement to GIA diamond reports for eligible D-to-Z natural and laboratory-grown round brilliant and fancy shape diamonds. The report will have an additional cost of US$25.

“The American Gem Society is thrilled about the launch of the AGS Ideal Report by GIA,” said Katherine Bodoh, CEO of the American Gem Society. “The new AGS Ideal Report available through GIA marks a milestone in our shared history. GIA set the standard for grading color and clarity, and AGS was the first to talk about light performance and cut grade. Now you can have a report that combines both philosophies and expertise. This is a big win for the industry and consumers!”

The AGS Light Performance system measures how well a diamond handles light. Wade Abel, the American Gem Society’s Director of Gemology, explains: “Using a 3D scan of the diamonds, virtual rays of light are traced through the kaleidoscope of mirrors and windows created by the facets. This process considers the relative placement of each facet with the others to assess the diamond’s beauty: brightness, fire, contrast, and overall appearance.”

The AGS Ideal Report by GIA is available as a supplement to the following GIA reports: Diamond Grading Report, Diamond Dossier, Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report, Laboratory-Grown Diamond Report Dossier, eReport, and Diamond Focus Report.

The supplemental report is available for round brilliant and the following fancy shapes, including specific facet arrangements of cushion, oval, emerald, radiant, princess, and fancy round brilliant. The report is available with or without an AGS ASET image.
