In regards to diamonds, a number of diamond traders from Antwerp, Israel, Hong Kong and Mumbai thronged to the show. These traders were not the regular visitors to the show but they wanted to have a firsthand feel of the American market. While the Asian markets are bit sluggish so the traders were trying to work in the U.S. markets.
The U.S. market being Israel’s leading market for polished diamonds, Israel Diamond Industry was among the largest international exhibitor groups at the show. Besides, IDI’s groundbreaking “Find Your Diamond” search system was launched at the show.
In the last few months, Indian manufacturers have slowed the production which has resulted in a limited supply of certain goods. Traders feel that due to the limited supply of polished goods, the prices of the goods can go up by few per cent in coming time. Rough is still very strong and manufacturers are buying it.
CVD and HPHT diamonds were talk of the town at the show. The people went to these booths to see what the goods are like and also to have a pricing idea. Though the trade is reluctant but few brands in the U.S. are planning to launch a separate line in their stores using man-made diamonds.
Demand for gemstones was slow. Only high value gemstone traders received demand while few designers picked up few gemstones. However, there was no rush for the gemstones.
In the jewellery segment, this year new and innovative jewellery did well. However, Hong Kong and Indian pavilion looked a bit slow. There was demand for new products and designs.
Major trends of the jewellery during the show were baguettes cuts rendered in diamonds and coloured stones; collar necklaces were quite popular; animal motifs especially butterflies; clever use of negative space in jewellery etc.
This year, at the show, it was easier to navigate show floor, mainly due to a new icon system delineating curated neighborhood pavilions, which appealed to busy shoppers out of the gate. Besides, visitors also noticed a sophisticated style infusion throughout the show's campus. There were a number of new lounges- many with specific themes and amenities including a spa lounge, translation services in the passport lounge, and roaming food carts.
