South Africa’s NUM plans protest against Kimberley mines sale

De Beers, which announced the sale of the Kimberley Mines to the Epaka consortium, which is comprised of Epaka Minings and Petra Diamonds, for $7.2 million in December 2015, is likely to face rough weather as South Africa’s National Union of Mineworkers is planning a protest, say reports. In a statement, the National Union of Mineworkers has said that the De Beers should hold consultations and temporarily halt the sale of Kimberley mines to Epaka. 

The national Union of Mineworkers wants talks with De Beers to ensure the sustainable employment and job security of their members, exhausting other options instead of setting employees up for possible downward variation of the conditions of employment, reports say.
